Nina Tassler Speaks To Moonlight Fans

First, before I get to business I need to talk about something. I have been very active with Digg lately. And there I have found the best Jericho fans around. They are committed to saving Jericho. I totally admire them. It’s because of this fight with Moonlight I have found them. Jericho fans are persistent and they are out to get what they want. I have never found people that will fight so relentlessly for something they believe in.

The other day, I published a story about how Nina Tassler said that she wasn’t sorry about canceling Moonlight and all fan mail really was all about Alex O’Loughlin.

TV Squad got a chance to talk to Nina and tell her how mad Moonlight fans are about what she said the other day…her response?? (Jericho fans get ready…you are are included too!)

I caught up with Tassler at the CBS party that night, and I told her about the comments I was getting. When I speculated that I didn’t even think the Jericho fans were that passionate, she retorted, “I think they were. The Jericho fans … I spent a lot of time looking the blogs and the website. Look, I don’t want to say Moonlight fans weren’t fans of the show. They were. But in sort of sifting through all of it (the e-mails, etc.) it was very much about ‘our vampire, Alex (O’Laughlin).’” When I mentioned that some of the comments were pretty ugly, she just looked at me and said, “It’s not a pretty business.”

Nina doesn’t know what she is doing…there is so much more to that show than Alex. I love Alex…but I love the story and the cast too.

This is the first time I ever heard of anyone ever questioning the reason “why” people watch a TV show. What difference does it make as long as the viewers are there. Moonlight consistently won it’s time slot. That’s all that should matter.

I would just like to comment to why I say “my Josef” or “my Moonlight”
That is because we have taken such a deep heartfelt interest in saving the show CBS abandoned it is now “our show”. We watched every week. We created websites, blogs, My Space pages, Facebook pages.
Organized blood drives, donated blood ( yes we literally have given our blood, sweat and tears to this show. Did you donate Nina??)
    Organized fund raisers, get togethers.
Voted and voted in every poll possible.
Emailed, snail mailed and called every network and sponsor we can.

We never gave up on Moonlight Nina, you did.
So yes it is “our Moonlight”, “our Mick”, Our Beth”, and “our Josef”
They will now an forever be ours while cbs will remain a distant memory since it does not exist for the more faithful Moonlight fans!!!

I gotta say this is one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever heard anyone in the TV business say — that they were basically cancelling a show because the fans who watched were fans of the actor who played the lead. Will Smith is a big deal in Hollywood — as are Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson and dozens of others — because people go see movies because these actors are in them. That’s the entire base of their power in the business.

Tassler is frankly a fool. Nobody cares WHY people watch — just that they watch. She tossed out a show that was consistently winning it’s time slot and had a growing fanbase at a time when cable channels are increasingly making broadcast networks like CBS pretty passe’. Unless CBS — and to be fair, NBC and ABC — steps up with some innovative programming that they’re willing to support, you’ll see them all become things of the past in very short order. There are just too many other entertainment options out there for people.

It’s not like the old days of the antenna stuck on the roof, Nina. We don’t have to watch your network because there’s nothing else. There’s plenty of other stuff out there to amuse the masses, something amply proven by your consistently shrinking market share. I hadn’t personally watched anything on CBS in a decade — until Moonlight and Jericho. I guess I learned my lesson, huh?

Enough with the Miley Cyrus. We want Moonlight brought back. Finally a show with some pizazzz. Great characters and an awesome story. There will always be a fascination for stories with vampires, we need more, not less. I am sick of all the tenn scream crap. We need more Mick.

I agree, we need Mick st John again on CBS or other network. Please bring him back next fall.
I am very happy that cbs gave Alex contract to sign. I hope it’s not a talent show cbs has for him because I think he deserves more than that. He is a good actor and works very hard to be a good actor.
thanks and moonlight come back to us.
    Francine

I love Moonlight, I love Mick, I love Beth, I love Jason, I love Shannyn. A network should not question why I watch a show but be satisfied that I do watch. Moonlight was a quality show that did not deserve to be cancelled. It garnered 8 million dedicated and loyal fans despite lack of advertisement, a writer’s strike and a poor time slot. If the “ratings” were not as high as desired, why wasn’t Moonlight moved to a better time slot? There are just too many unanswered questions about why it was cancelled. I would like to know the real truth.

Nina Tassler has no clue of what the viewer wants and continues to insult them in anyway possible. Does it really matter how the fans refer to MOONLIGHT by saying “my . . .or our . . .? No, this is just another thing for her to complain about. The real argument here is why MOONLIGHT was cancelled. To say that the fan base for this show was soley based on one actor is insane. It is the entire cast of MOONLIGHT that we tuned in for every week. If CBS had promoted MOONLIGHT in the same manner as the idiotic “Survivor” or “Big Brother”, etc. or moved it to another night or time slot, then it may have been more successful. Instead, Nina and the boys just decided to cancel it. Maybe someone higher at CBS need to rethink Nina’s contract and cancel her. Just for the record, I love MOONLIGHT, Alex, Sophia, Jason, and the entire cast of MOONLIGHT and now that Alex has been given a new contract at CBS, bring back the show that he is so identified with, MOONLIGHT. For once, listen to the viewer.

Tessler said Fans only like Alex O’loughlin because CBS signed Alex O’loughlin to a year contract because they now realize that they blew it by cancelling Moonlight. They knew some other network was likely to pick up Moonlight as a mid-season replacement, so they signed him so that they could put a final “nail in the coffin” of Moonlight. They were scared that if someone else picked up Moonlight it would be a big success, and that would validate that they blew it! Nina Tessler was scared she would be shown to have a tin ear and bad judgement. CBS and Tessler now realize that cancelling Moonlight was worse than a crime, it was a blunder! Showing there ignorance and arrogance yet again. If they cared about their fans more than their ego, they would admit their mistake and bring back Moonlight

@Rod I never thought of it that way. But yes them tying up Alex for a year will make sure that Moonlight won’t come back. And I haven’t heard anything of what they have in development for him. :(

i wonder what nina “i look better in slacks because of my piano ankles” tessler thinks about her decision to cancel moonlight IN LIGHT OF THE HUGE RECEPTION FOR TWILIGHT. i watch episodes of moonlight, am blown away by the dialogue, music and acting. ALL OF THE CHARACTERS are phenomenal. a friend of mine works in hollywood and is a screen writer. she said that it is filled to the brim with unattractive women working on their 3rd marriage and dislike men. clearly the lead actor alex is stunningly beautiful … and that would piss any woman off whose boat has sailed..especially if she controls the purse.

but what can you say about a station like CBS that brings us HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER???

@victoria Moonlight grabbed me right away..I agree that they did a stupid thing considering Twilight.. I really am sad that it’s still not back. Alex was my favorite!
