Brothers Teaser Trailer

Lionsgate sent over this teaser poster and movie trailer for the movie, Brothers, to me this morning. I perked up when I saw what a great cast it had; Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire. I’ve watched the trailer a couple of times now and can’t decide if I want to start crying or let the shivers keep going up and down my back.

BROTHERS tells the powerful story of two siblings, thirty-something Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and younger brother Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal), who are polar opposites. A Marine about to embark on his fourth tour of duty, Sam is a steadfast family man married to his high school sweetheart, the aptly named Grace (Natalie Portman), with whom he has two young daughters. Tommy, his charismatic younger brother, is a drifter just out of jail who’s always gotten by on wit and charm. When his Black Hawk helicopter is shot down in the mountains Sam is presumed dead and the Cahill family suddenly faces a shocking void. Tommy tries to fill in for his brother by assuming newfound responsibility for himself, Grace, and the children. In the grief and strangeness of their new lives, Grace and Tommy are naturally drawn together. Their longstanding frostiness dissolves, but both are frightened and ashamed of the mutual attraction that has replaced it.

But Sam is not dead; he and a fellow soldier have been captured by Taliban fighters. In Afghanistan’s harsh, remote Pamir Mountains, Sam is subjected to traumas that threaten to rob him of his very humanity. At the same time that Sam’s sense of self is being destroyed overseas, Tommy’s self-image is strengthening at home.

When Sam unexpectedly returns to the States, a nervous mood settles over the family. Sam, uncharacteristically withdrawn and volatile, grows suspicious of his brother and his wife. Their familiar roles now nearly reversed, Sam and Tommy end up facing the ultimate physical and mental challenge when they confront each other. In the shifting family dynamics, who will dominate? Directed by six-time Oscar,® nominee Jim Sheridan, BROTHERS tells the compelling tale of how two brothers come to terms with issues of love, loyalty, and manhood—and with the woman caught between them.

I love any movie Natalie is in. And this is such a powerful one. What happens when you fall in love with someone when you thought your husband died?

Brothers comes to theaters on December 4th, 2009. Make sure you bring a box of kleenex with you.

    Can’t wait to see it.

how do you think that a big cry baby like Toby can play a Marine. it’s kind of a disgrace to the corps

I’m not a huge fan of Tobey but I think he’ll do it justice. I have been doing a lot of reading on how he took the role and really immersed himself in it. I will be watching the movie before I come to the conclusion that he was a disgrace or not.

Oh My God, that looks amazing, i cannot wait to see it, at first i was crying during the trailer, and then i got shivers when he started screaming and yelling, I think he’ll be amazing in that role just from seeing that little excerpt.

I felt the same way I when I first watched it. I barely watch movie trailers more than once and this one I have seen many many times. I think this movie will be amazing. :)

  6. Richard says:

I saw the original Danish film, “Brødre.” Released in 2004, it stars Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator,” “The Devil’s Advocate.”)

The original was very good. Hope this remake is just as good as the original!

  7. Bob says:

This is like the 5th or 6th movie “OMFG IF YOU JOIN THE ARMY YOUR GONNA B NUTS!” hollyweird has came out with, and every single one of them has lost money. Who keeps throwing away tens of millions of dollars on these things? Seriously…”stoploss” lost about 14 mil, “in the valley of elah” made like 6 mil domestically. The only recent war movie that has made money was hurt locker, because it showed US servicemembers in a positive light. Keep making shitty movies that portray veterans as white trash morons (who were forced to join the military because they were stupid/poor and now beat their disproportionately hot wives and abuse alcohol), and keep losing money.

  8. brooklynwry says:

The Danish original is an amazing film, partly by virtue of lesser-known actors and the fact that the trailers don’t spell out the entire plot of the film in condensed dramatic snippets as Hollywood has done with this. Which is to say, the unique and powerful story behind the movie, which I had no conception of when I watched it the first time, made all the difference.

Do yourself a favor and see Broder before this Hollywood behemoth hits theaters.

  9. Liggy says:

The trailer still gives me chills…I can’t wait to see the movie!!! Two of my favorite male actors and a brilliant Natalie Portman in the same movie – what more can I ask for in a movie?!

  10. Eileen says:

This sort of reminds me of Pearl Harbor??? No???

  11. Diana says:

I think it will be great. I hope. And to reply to one of the users comments, I don’t think they necessarily meant that all military personnel are crazy or whatnot…I believe it’s a story about a guy, who apparently went through so much and all he thought about was his wife and kids when he was away, and he feels very hurt and betrayed. Idk…It sounds so good.

  12. Tallulah says:

I remember reading a novel last year with this exact plot but I can’t think of the name of the book, it’s driving me bonkers ????

  13. Nan says:

I saw the movie last night. As the wife of a soldier who has been deployed to Afghanistan twice, it hit a little too close to home for me. I was thoroughly impressed by McGuire’s performance, very raw. I was crying so hard at one point, my husband had to calm me down. My only complaint is that the movie didn’t quite feel “finished”.

  14. Jesse says:

Because we are so conditioned not to question we fail to recognise this is Hollywood’s way of instilling fear into Americans about war. This movie is a disgrace to the memories of thousands of great men and women that layed down their life’s for the freedoms “I” have! God Bless freedom, God Bless America!

  15. The Vixxxen says:

I saw this movie last night. it is extremely indicative of the real life challenges that war brings home. I have a Marine son- worked for a Marine boss who was in Desert Storm in hand to hand ground combat and have a cousin with 5 tours under his belt…this is NOT bullshit. The disgrace is assuming men can handle killing and torture and come home and act normal- as if there is no consequence to conscience or heart. I bless these men and women every day and I truly feel this kind of movie- although very uncomfortable is exactly what we need to realize what we are putting our guys through….and it SUCKS.

  16. Prior Service says:

I saw this movie and although I love the actors, the story line left me with an empty feeling of disgust.

As a prior service member, I think the message is tragic. What would a movie like this say to an eager and potential candidate to the Armed Forces? That if he/she is deployed, and in the event they are captured by opposing forces, his/her commanding officer would kill them to save his own life?!!!!

Military members are trained and bound by trust not just to the country but to each other. I dont know of such a person who wouldnt give his own life to save mine or in rare instances take his own life so as not to face the dilemma.

I know, I know….the movie is fictitional but is it really entertainment?

    Im just saying…

  17. Eric says:

Saw the movie last night. Having spent over twenty years of my life as a Marine, I am disgusted that these Hollywood types feel so free to use our reputation and honor to try and make a buck.

Just as the so-called “artist” who put the crucifix in a jar of urine in order to make himself famous; is nothing sacred to these people?

There are true heros out there giving their lives to protect the rights of those to make this sort of crap; which in turn besmirtches the very honor of their protectors.

Hollywood certainly has the right to make this type of stuff, I can only wish they would receive the scorn they deserve for doing so.

  18. Suzana says:

    WOW!!!!WOW!!!!!wow~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. harry kramer says:

I also was left with an empty feeling!! I was in the airforce during the vietnam era would terorist really ask a captured enemy of theirs to kill their own comrade????? or is this just a hollywood stunt!! a tough dedicated marine would rather have let himself be killed then kill his comrade!!!
