Lifehouse’s fifth studio album, Smoke & Mirrors, comes out today. With Smoke & Mirrors  lead singer/guitarist Jason Wade, drummer Ricky Woolstenhulme Jr., bassist Bryce Soderberg and newly added guitarist Ben Carey, along with long time producer Jude Cole, have created a set that combines their live sound with great record making. Smoke & Mirrors started out with a mission to capture the live, rock side of the band; a sound they had perfected after three years of solid touring. Songs like “Smoke & Mirrors,” “Wrecking Ball” and “Had Enough” (with guest vocals by Chris Daughtry) have a very raw and stage driven feel to them. However, after living with the early tracks and experimenting with others, a piece of the puzzle seemed to be missing.

Equal to their enthusiasm for the live sound, they also love to make studio records. After all, one of Lifehouse’s greatest achievements is the tens of millions of radio spins garnered over the span of 4 albums, so to create a record solely focusing on the sound from their show felt off balance.A trip back into the studio to experiment in more of a ‘record making’ effort produced tracks like “All In,” “Here Tomorrow Gone Today” and the first single “Halfway Gone” co written by Kevin Rudolf (Let it Rock). Songs sure to be heard on radio for years to come.

Now I have had the album in my hands for the week. And I have listened to it pretty much the whole time. I love that the album has a bit of everything. My favorite songs are “Nerve Damage”, which is the rock that I remember from them and “From Where You Are”,  a love song that reminds me of a past song that I love “Everything”. In this album you can tell they were experimenting more. And I think they pulled it off quite nicely. To get your copy of the album in the Standard or Deluxe version go here.

After seeing them live when they came to Starland Ballroom a while back; I'd have to say Storm is my favorite, it's their most heartfelt and breathtaking song.

It brings me chills every time I listen to it because reminds me of a relationship with my best friend for nine years. We grew up together and were as close as siblings. We also both loved Lifehouse too.

Now I listen to that song to remember the people who mean the most to me, that I care about, and how hard life can be but knowing everything will be alright.

You know.. it is sooooo unfair for European fans.. ;-) but I'm gonna say my fav song is .. tadadadam .. Hanging by a moment. I know. But over ten years it still has special spot in my heart. ;D Amazing song. As others.

How could you ever pick just one song as your favorite?! I love every song on every album!!! I guess if I did have to say just one I would choose "You and Me" because I listened to that a lot while my husband was in Iraq and when they sang it at the concert I went to while he was gone, I got chills. That song helped me get through that rough time with a smile, a song and a reminder of how strong love is. I would love to win anything that could also be a reminder. Plus I LOVE LIFEHOUSE!!!!!!!

  8. Jeena says:

I'm not sure that I can choose just 1 favorite… but to keep things simple I would have to say "Everything" is as close as it gets
