Celebrity Rewind: Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson

Back a couple of years ago Nylon magazine got this shot of Robert Pattinson, who at the time they had no clue who he was. He was included in their book of STREET style. Of course Robert had fashion back then.

I went to the mall yesterday and noticed that plaid is coming back, which I am super happy about! And out loud I said in the mall. “Plaid is back, thank you Robert Pattinson.” I am sure you can connect something in every day life that Rob has brought back. He’s just that awesome.

At Home With John Mayer…

John Mayer

I must admit that I was intrigued with the prospect of seeing what John Mayer’s house looked like. It kind of makes me think I would never be able to hang around with him because I would  be afraid to break something, and that alone makes me feel claustrophobic.

“After I finally figured out how to behave, and how to dress, I wanted to get the next thing—my apartment—right. It’s the last piece of the style puzzle. A year ago, it never would have been right for me. But I’ve changed. I’m confident I’ve earned the happiness a real home base brings. If my apartment could make me feel the way I do in Mr. Armani’s suits, life would be really wonderful,”

Armani agreed to help [help decorate his house]. “I wanted to create a sophisticated environment for John,” the fashion icon says, “one that will bring as much pleasure to him as his music brings to us.”

And this is what they came up with. It is amazing. But something that I could never get used to living in.

Avril Lavigne Covers Elle Canada

Avril Lavigne Elle Magazine August 2008 Cover

Avril Lavigne is the cover girl for the Canadian issue of Elle magazine.  I know that she’s from Canada but really I don’t see her as Canadian anymore. She’s made quite a name for herself and probably lives in the States with her husband. In this issue she talks about her clothing line, her changing style and her new album. Here are the highlights:

On her fans following her style: “I knew my style really resonated with my fans when they dressed like me at my shows-that was pretty insane. And it was so cool to see them change with me. For the second record, I wore bondage pants and started putting black in my hair, and they started showing up looking like that too.”

On her clothing line Abbey Dawn: “I wanted this clothing line for so long, I wanted to do it right. I didn;t just want a Licensing deal; I wanted this to be my line, and I wanted to put everything I have into it. I’ve been planning it for years. It’s my own personal style-everything I love.”

On settling down: “I see the fast pace continuing for awhile. I don’t want to settle down. If I’m going to have kids, it’s not going to be until later. I have a lot I want to do, and I just want to have fun.”

On her new album reflecting her increasing maturity, but not leaving out her youthful pop-punk side: “I’m a young spirit-I like to jump around and have a lot of fun. I have a side that’s really feisty and a side that’s sensitive and mellow. I’ve always loved playing ballads, but I also enjoy rocking out, so I like to mix it up.”

Madonna is Reviving the Scrunchie, Beware

Walking the line between good taste and risk is hard enough for a normal red carpet event, but when it comes to the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it’s time for fashion critics (large and small) to be more ruthless than normal. You see, this event is sort of almost like Halloween – you’re supposed to go all out. And while the celebrity of your choice should look good, if they play it too safe here they’re just plain boring! (Such was sadly the case for far to many – from  model Gisele Bundchen in a tiny minidress, to model Amber Valletta in a simple tangerine colored dress. YAWN.

This year’s theme? The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion

Sadly, Gossip Girl Leighton Meester goes on my list of ‘BAD’. She certainly made an effort. But she went overboard. She can’t seem to decide between an 80’s theme or being Shirley Temple. I’d personally pass on both. Verdict: BAD.

But LeMe wasn’t alone. In fact even the wonderful Heidi Klum had a ‘miss’ last night.

Mischa Barton Floats on the Red Carpet

Oh, Mischa Barton. You dress in a way that always makes me frown a little bit. At least this last time at the BAFTA Television Awards for 2009 I frowned a little less than usual. I’m not sure where you got your modeling moves but I have a feeling they really only work on America’s Next Top Model.

While I’m unsure as to whether the gold near your neck is part of the dress or a separate necklace-piece, I enjoy it. I’m grateful you didn’t over accessorize the rest of your outfit. Although, isn’t your long navy dress looking a little lonley and boring? You’re very sleek and slim – we get that. In fact, in the second picture it looks like you’re someone out of a Harry Potter movie, floating along the red carpet.

And, the shoes? Red shoes? Is that snakeskin print? Beading? What is going on down there, and why?

Tori Spelling Wearing Garnish (Strange but True)

Normally I don’t have a reason to talk about Tori Spelling. In fact, I make it a rule not to. But sometimes you gotta break your own rules. When someone decides to dress like a giant stalk of celery…I don’t know WHAT you do! But you can assume that mockery is standard. I mean, who told Tori this dress looked flattering? She’s wearing garnish!

I guess she’s “written” another book. I have used my keen detective skills to figure out that it’s called Mommywood. Which is so…I’m sorry, lame! I’m so sick of puns on the word ‘Hollywood’ (Heidiwood, anyone?).

Back to the garnish-clad Tori, for a woman promoting a book about being a Mom, she seems to be holding her own baby as though it were a

dirty orphan she’s never met and would rather not smell. Oh, boy.

P.S. Apparently the book has encouraged her mother, Candy Spelling, to reach out to Tori.
