I am a huge fan of Natalie Portman. There is just something about her that is awesome. She is starring in the new movie with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire called Brothers. I love the trailer for the movie. She is the cover girl for the Winter 2009/2010 issue of V magazine. Here are the highlights from the interview:
On harsh criticism of her Star Wars work: “My acting was not exactly respected in those films [laughs] but those are the moments when you want to prove yourself again. When people think I suck, it helps.”
On how the internet affects her roles: “[O]nline bulls— interferes with what I want to do artistically. I’m not opposed to sexuality or nudity in a film, but I’m very opposed to pornography sites and you’re pretty much giving them material if you do any of that.”
On striving to be her best: “To be successful, you need the desire to be successful. Ambition can be a dirty word, but it’s pretty much more important than anything.”
Back in July, I posted the trailer for, Brothers, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire. Now that the movie is hitting theaters on December 4th they released a couple of new stills. This movie looks amazing, especially with the cast that it has. The quick synopsis is that a man (Jake) comforts his sister-in-law (Natalie) and children after her husband (Tobey) goes missing in Afghanistan. I’ve watched the trailer more than a couple of times already.
Lionsgate sent over this teaser poster and movie trailer for the movie, Brothers, to me this morning. I perked up when I saw what a great cast it had; Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire. I’ve watched the trailer a couple of times now and can’t decide if I want to start crying or let the shivers keep going up and down my back.
BROTHERS tells the powerful story of two siblings, thirty-something Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and younger brother Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal), who are polar opposites. A Marine about to embark on his fourth tour of duty, Sam is a steadfast family man married to his high school sweetheart, the aptly named Grace (Natalie Portman), with whom he has two young daughters. Tommy, his charismatic younger brother, is a drifter just out of jail who’s always gotten by on wit and charm. When his Black Hawk helicopter is shot down in the mountains Sam is presumed dead and the Cahill family suddenly faces a shocking void. Tommy tries to fill in for his brother by assuming newfound responsibility for himself, Grace, and the children. In the grief and strangeness of their new lives, Grace and Tommy are naturally drawn together. Their longstanding frostiness dissolves, but both are frightened and ashamed of the mutual attraction that has replaced it.
But Sam is not dead; he and a fellow soldier have been captured by Taliban fighters. In Afghanistan’s harsh, remote Pamir Mountains, Sam is subjected to traumas that threaten to rob him of his very humanity. At the same time that Sam’s sense of self is being destroyed overseas, Tommy’s self-image is strengthening at home.
When Sam unexpectedly returns to the States, a nervous mood settles over the family. Sam, uncharacteristically withdrawn and volatile, grows suspicious of his brother and his wife. Their familiar roles now nearly reversed, Sam and Tommy end up facing the ultimate physical and mental challenge when they confront each other. In the shifting family dynamics, who will dominate? I love any movie Natalie is in. And this is such a powerful one. What happens when you fall in love with someone when you thought your husband died?
Brothers comes to theaters on December 4th, 2009. Make sure you bring a box of kleenex with you.
Today was Thanksgiving Day in Canada. Happy Gobble Gobble Day. Although I didn’t get to make turkey I had a lot of crab last night at the Chinese food restaurant. I have been up to my eyeballs in celebrity pumpkin posts so I though I would share them with you.
Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale and son, Kingston, were seen in West Hollywood picking out their pumpkins. How cute is Kingston? I think he really wants to help his Dad so bad!
