Penn Badgley is on Gossip Girl. And since he’s been dating his co-star, Blake Lively, things have been quieter for him. He recently sat down with VMAN magazine and talked about being a teen idol and how his life parallels Gossip Girl in many ways. (I read the interview on the website and I didn’t realize that boy swore so much. I was shocked. I’m not saying that everyone is perfect just that I didn’t think he would.)
On how the two worlds are parallel: “If you look at the lives we’re leading on the show and the lives we’re leading offscreen, I mean, they’re very fucking similar… But it’s not weird. It doesn’t feel incestuous.â€
On how they are considered royalty: “In certain circles we’re treated like royalty. We’re treated like the Kennedys. We’re never going to be able to separate New York City from Gossip Girl and vice versa.â€
On fans reacting to him: “You barely have to be famous for people to scream when they see you.â€
On being viewed another teen idol: “I’m not just a teen star idol. I’m not just that.â€
On how his role of Dan has changed: “They brought me on to be the awkward sort of confident nerd. In the beginning, they wrote to my ability to stutter very well – it’s a comedic kind of thing.â€

Everyone knows I have a major heart crush on Chace Crawford, his eyes make me literally melt. So when I saw him in VMan magazine, and shot by my favorite photographer Mario Testino, I was stoked. I know people might say he looks a little feminine but he’s showing that he can do a wide range of things.
I didn’t know that Chace was in Journalism school (I have my Journalism degree) when he dropped out to get into acting. I can’t see him being a writer… Here are some highlights from the interview in VMan…
On noticing Gossip Girl’s crossover into the adult world: “I’ll be out on the golf course
, and some guy will come up to me, sort of sheepishly, and be like, ‘Hey, my wife really loves the show. Can I get a picture with you?’ They’re always super embarrassed. And I’m like, ‘C’mon man, you love the show.’ Women get their husbands or boyfriends sucked into it. I like to see that.â€
On realizing he’s been cast for his good looks: “There are a lot of adverse effects of being a certain type, which I am. Look, I wouldn’t be in the business if I didn’t feel I had what it takes to have longevity. Everyone has a certain castability, or quality they’re always going to have to fight. I think the best remedy is to reinvent yourself. I’m not going to take the same type of role in the future.â€
On having a a career strategy mapped out: “I want to do the edgy independent movies, like DiCaprio did, but you have to balance it out. It’s about carving out your leading-man role. Fight Club
? Yes! X-Men? Yes! All sorts of different films. American Beauty? Yes! I don’t know if I could pull off a Kevin Spacey, but I’ll try!â€
Yes, I agree that Gossip Girl has went over to the adult world, I can’t get enough of that show…and he is good looking, he better get used to it…
